Visiting the idyllic and iconic Hundred Islands

Flaunting 123 (124 during low tide) islets across the cobalt blue waters of the Lingayen Gulf, the first national park and protected tourist spot in Alaminos, Pangasinan summons bold-faced nomads and thrill explorers. Sheltering a wide variety of breathtaking wildlife and fishes, these hunter green islands are conjointly called Hundred Islands. Most of the islands that wanderlusts can see within the protected environment are desolate, save for four major islands where people can stay by day or overnight. These four islands are: Governors Island, Quezon Island, Marcos Island, and Children’s Islands.

Transportation to Hundred Islands is mainly by boat through Lucap Wharf, the jump-off point of boats for island hopping. If you are one of those pleasure seekers, then the best option is to rent a kayak and go canoeing from island to island. Furthermore, you can also explore the rich and vibrant marine life of the islands by snorkeling. Finally, if you are someone who just likes to sit back and relax, then the island also offers camping tools and supplies like grills, coolers, and mats for rental.

To complete your Hundred Islands’ tour, nomads should pay an exhilarating visit to the Pilgrimage Island. A 56-foot Christ the King statue stands tall atop the Pilgrimage Island (formerly Martha Island) with 263 steps that devotees can climb. The spot is perfect for those who came to not only admire the picturesque view of the islands, but to also venerate the image. The island is normally packed during the holy week season where several devotees climb the island to pray.

Packed with a rich mix of tourist destinations in the city of Alaminos, Hundred Islands can definitely grace the top of the list of great places to visit. So, it’s time to amend your travel bucket lists, include Hundred Islands, and be sure to check the captivating beauty of the nature reserve the next time you plan to visit the Philippines. See you there!
